Connecticut has several state agencies that support older adults, people with disabilities, and caregivers.
State Resources
Department of Social Services
The Department of Social Services (DSS) oversees many programs, including Medicare and Medicaid, and educates people about their options for care and support at home and in the community through MyPlaceCT.org.
Aging and Disability Services
Aging and Disability Services (ADS) is the home of the Connecticut Statewide Respite Program, which offers support to caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s Disease or related dementias. ADS also oversees the National Family Caregiver Support Program.
Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program
The Long Term Care Ombudsman Program (LTCOP) works to improve the quality of life and quality of care of Connecticut citizens residing in nursing homes, residential care homes, and assisted living communities. For more information and resources, visit the LTCOP website.
To contact the Ombudsman’s office call the statewide toll free number 1-866-388-1888 or 1-860-424-5200.
