A Reimbursement Program for Renters

This program provides a reimbursement for eligible Connecticut renters who are older or living with a disability and whose income does not exceed certain limits. Persons renting an apartment or room, or living in cooperative housing or a mobile home may be eligible for this program.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, recipients must meet the following qualifications:

  • Must be a Connecticut resident for at least one year; and
  • Be age 65 or older; or
  • Be age 50 or older and the surviving spouse of a renter who at the time of the renter’s death had qualified and was entitled to tax relief; or
  • Be age 18 or older and eligible to receive Social Security Disability benefits

Cash Reimbursement

The Renters’ Rebate program provides a cash reimbursement to qualified applicants for the rent they have paid.

The rebate amount is based on a graduated income scale and the amount the renter pays in rent and utilities. Generally, the rebate amounts range between $50 – $900.
