Affordable Assisted Living Options

Assisted Living in Congregate Housing

These congregate living facilities offer assisted living services to residents who require assistance with Activities of Daily Living and nursing and medical services in order to remain in congregate housing instead of moving into a nursing home. The assisted living services are provided by an Assisted Living Services Agency (ALSA). To be eligible for ALSA services an individual must be 65 years of age and qualify for the CT Home Care Program for Elders (CHCPE). ALSAs are licensed by the CT Department of Public Health.

Moderate and Low-Income Assisted Living Demonstration Project

This project provides subsidized assisted living services for persons residing in affordable housing. It was created by the Department of Social Services (DSS), in collaboration with the Department of Public Health (DPH), the Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD), the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority (CHFA) and the Office of Policy and Management (OPM).

The project is limited to a maximum of 300 subsidized dwelling units. Applicants for subsidized Assisted Living Services are subject to the same eligibility requirements as the CT Home Care Program for Elders (CHCPE). Four projects are currently in operation in Hartford, Glastonbury, Middletown and Seymour. Individuals must be 65 years of age and qualify for the CT Home Care Program for Elders (CHCPE). ALSAs are licensed by the CT Department of Public Health.
