Personal Emergency Response Systems (PERS)

Sometimes called Emergency (Medical) Response Systems (ERS), these systems provide eligible adults and people with disabilities different options to get help in an emergency. They include:

  • Cell phones for individuals to dial 9-1-1. State funded, no fee.
  • Bracelets or necklaces worn as monitoring devices. Private pay, fee based. Many of the CT long-term services and supports waivers and programs can cover the cost.
  • Sophisticated, automated call-and-response systems, such as CareCall, Health Watch® and Philips Lifeline®. Private pay, fee based.

Some systems, such as the statewide “Enhanced 9-1-1” system, do not charge a fee while others charge fees for installation and monthly monitoring.

Learn more. SafeLink Wireless® is a government program that provides free cell phones and, for those who meet certain guidelines, free minutes. Please visit the SafeLink website for program details.
